You cannot tell from the description and the photos but the outer casing for the whole assembly is plastic with only an inner sleeve of steel. It is not soild steel or brass like some other brands. Likewise the inside plug/plunger and shaft is also plastic and is cheapo cheap and lightweight. The screw knob in the center was loose when I took it out of the package so tried to tighten it and the thread (plastic!) was already stripped and it just spun and then falls apart when you lift up the basket. Unbelievable! A weak plastic thread on something that gets turned and fiddled with every wash?
Basically it looks good but I scratch my head at the people who designed this thing - the basket assembly is going to break in about 10 seconds flat of normal pushing and pulling in a sink.
I got two and the second was as fragile as the first. However, the packaging is indestructible - pity they made it so strong and the core so weak! I am calling returns tomorrow and back they go...A hassle and a wasted week with no sink operable. Avoid!
